The Coalition for Peace With Justice has, over the last year,
established
itself as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of North
Carolina, USA. As part of that process, a set of by-laws was written by
the Steering Committee, a group which had been informally guiding CPWJ
affairs prior to the formation of the corporation. These by-laws were
formally adopted by an initial Board of Directors, which itself had been
chosen by informal means as a starting point for organizing the
corporation. However before the final draft of the by-laws were signed
by
the Board, they were reviewed and approved at a general meeting of the
organization to which all friends of CPWJ were invited.
Many people have been associated with CPWJ in the last few years, but we
have never had an official "membership". We do have lists of those who
have contributed time, money and other resources, however. Our new
by-laws
call for a formal membership, and for the members to elect a Board to
govern the corporation. Thus we now begin the process of enacting the
provisions of the by-laws, by asking those who have supported CPWJ in
the
past to consider becoming members. We hope to add new supporters to our
list of members as well.
Persons age 18 or older who share the goals of CPWJ may become members
by paying dues. As established by the by-laws, there are three types of
membership, "single membership", "family membership", and "lifetime
single
membership". Dues for "single membership" are $25, and cover one
individual for one year. Dues for "family membership" are $35, and
cover
two or more adults living at the same address for one year. Dues for
"lifetime single membership" are $200, and cover one individual for
life.
