Senator Edwards' Iraq Position

In the recent article, "Edwards differs on Iraq policy", (Oct. 8)
Senator Edwards is reportedly making strong statements against the
Administration's Iraq policy calling it "arrogance without purpose".
Yet, Senator Edwards is a co-sponsor on the Administration's resolution
to authorize the use of force against Iraq. Will the real Senator Edwards
   please stand-up?

If we want a secure and peaceful Middle East, we must look at the root
causes of the conflicts and develop principled policies which address
those causes.  Our foreign policy should be based on political and
economic justice as well as freedom and self-determination for all
peoples. Making nuances between different pro-war positions is just a
   meaningless political and marketing exercise.

In a different article, Senator Edwards' press secretary is quoted as,
"We will do our best to explain the senator's position on all issues."
This is part of the problem.  The senator should be listening to his
constituents rather than explaining his untenable positions.

I voted for John Edwards once, but at this point once is enough.
Unless Senator Edwards reverses his position on the Iraq war issue,
I plan to not vote for him in any federal election or primary.  I am
interested in pro-peace candidates and refuse to support anyone who does
anything less (that means you too, David Price).  Given the regressive
nature of North Carolina's election laws, I will probably end up writing
in "no suitable candidate" on my ballot.

   Sincerely,

   Paul Boyle
