Durham: “Strategizing Palestine
Solidarity” Workshop at the Southeast Social Forum The Southeast Social Forum, in Durham NC, is an important gathering leading up to the first-ever US Social Forum in Atlanta in June 2007. Come to share, analyze, strategize, and build around the impact of violence and war at home and abroad. The Forum is a weekend full of events, including panels and workshops on a wide range of topics, music and cultural events, and spaces to meet and share with activists engaged in similar struggles. Atlanta Palestine Solidarity is organizing a workshop on “Strategizing Palestine Solidarity” on Saturday at 11:45. The workshop aims to address issues of how to link the occupations of Palestine and Iraq with immigrant justice and how to maintain a commitment to justice in Israel/Palestine while showing solidarity with those working in the immigrant justice movement. Carrboro: “Bethlehem Blues” Richard Wark presents impressions from his recent study tour to Palestine and Israel, sponsored by the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. Wark will address the impact of the wall and occupation on the everyday lives of people living in the region, as well as the larger-scale implications for moving toward a more peaceful world. Reflecting on the role of The Holy Land in the lives of people of all faiths. Sunday, June 25: MARY LOU LEISER SMITH, longtime educator and Middle East peace activist, is the Coordinating Director of the Coalition for Peace with Justice, an interfaith, intercultural organization based in the Triangle area. As the Southeast representative for Friends of Sabeel, Mary Lou has extensive experience working with Christian Palestinian peacemakers. Mary Lou will present The Christian Ministry of Sabeel in the Holy Land: An overview of the peace movement initiated by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land based on the Gospel’s call to justice and peace through nonviolence.
